Qualifying and starting grid
Grid positioning is determined by three qualifying rounds, usually one for each driver.
- Each round lasts about 15 minutes and is played in free-track mode.
- The average of the best times obtained in the three qualifying rounds determines the final grid position for Endurance races.
- In the Sprint formula, however, the best time recorded in the round corresponding to the starting driver is used.
How the Italian Grand Touring Championship works
The Italian Gran Turismo Championship is one of Italy’s premier motorsport series, where cars derived from high-performance road-going models compete. It consists of two distinct race formats:
- Sprint: Shorter races, lasting about 50 minutes, with two drivers per car alternating mid-race. It is a dynamic and fast formula where every second counts and overtaking is the order of the day.
- Endurance: longer races, typically of 2 or 3 hours, which require complex strategy, time management and great fellowship among the drivers. In these races there are more pilot changes and increased attention to tire and fuel consumption. This Monza race is an Endurance race.
Within the competition, the cars run all together, but are divided into different categories of crews, based on the drivers’ experience and palmarès:
- PRO: crews composed of professional pilots
- PRO-AM: a combination of professional and amateur pilots
- AM: crews consisting of two amateurs and one professional
This system allows for multiple “races within a race,” with dedicated leaderboards for each category, making each event rich in challenge and competitive significance.
